Fix Learner Fatigue

Synergy Tech Corp, a mid-sized technology company, was experiencing significant challenges with its mandatory Data Safety and Breach Prevention Training. Despite the training being required annually, completion rates were low, assessment scores were declining, and compliance audits revealed that employees still struggled to correctly identify and report potential data breaches.

DISCLAIMER

Synergy Tech Corp (name), its logo, branding, characters, and the business scenario presented in this sample are entirely fictional. Any resemblance to real companies, organizations, or situations is purely coincidental. This project was created solely to demonstrate my instructional design and eLearning development capabilities.

Project Summary

Key challenges included:

  • The original training was instructor-led, inconsistent, and not scalable.
  • Learners described it as dense, outdated, and difficult to apply.
  • Even after attending the session, employees frequently misreported or failed to report incidents.
  • Managers struggled to secure timely completion across their teams.

Leadership requested a training redesign that would:

  1. Transition the experience from classroom-based delivery to an engaging eLearning format.
  2. Increase learner understanding of data safety principles.
  3. Improve completion rates and assessment scores.
  4. Provide clear, actionable steps for proper breach reporting.

Other organizational initiatives (manager accountability processes, compliance reminders, etc.) were implemented outside the scope of this learning project, but complemented the redesigned training.

iNSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN APPROACH

Purpose of This Sample:

This work sample is meant to showcase my ability to:

  • Analyze a performance gap.
  • Redesign a training experience using evidence-based instructional strategies.
  • Develop an interactive eLearning module in Storyline.
  • Improve engagement, completion, and learner confidence.

Key challenges included:

This sample demonstrates my approach to transforming a traditional, low-impact training into an interactive and meaningful learning experience.

The redesign focused on:

  • Scenario-driven learning to show real-world data breach situations.
  • Microlearning structure to reduce cognitive overload.
  • Clear reporting steps with examples aligned to Synergy Tech’s policies.
  • Knowledge checks and branching to reinforce correct decision-making.
  • A Storyline-based interactive module that increased learner engagement and supported flexible, asynchronous access.

Through these updates, the course aimed to improve assessment scores and raise overall compliance readiness by making the content clearer, more relevant, and easier to complete.

Asset Creation and Visual Design Process:

To create a polished and cohesive experience for this sample, I designed all graphics, visuals, and audio elements using a blended workflow that demonstrates both creativity and technical capability.

My process included:

AI-Assisted Concept Creation

I used AI tools to generate initial visual concepts and character variations. This allowed rapid exploration of layouts, stylistic options, and scenarios that aligned with Synergy Tech’s fictional brand identity.

Adobe Illustrator for Refinement and Branding

Once the AI-generated concepts were selected, I refined them in Adobe Illustrator to ensure consistency, clarity, and polish. This included:

  • Creating clean vector versions
  • Adjusting color palettes to match the fictional brand
  • Enhancing icons, UI components, and instructional elements

Adobe Stock for Professional-Quality Elements

I augmented licensed Adobe Stock assets to ensure a professional look and feel. These included:

  • Backgrounds
  • UI textures
  • Supplemental illustrations

All assets were incorporated responsibly, with proper licensing and integration.

AI Voiceover for Engagement and Accessibility

I used AI voiceover tools to produce clear narration that supports learner engagement and aids accessibility.

The audio was:

  • Scripted for clarity and instructional flow
  • Exported cleanly
  • Synced with on-screen interactions
  • Edited to maintain a consistent tone

Why This Matters:

This section demonstrates that I understand how to:

  • Blend traditional design tools with modern AI capabilities
  • Maintain consistency and professionalism in visual assets
  • Produce end-to-end multimedia for eLearning
  • Support corporate branding (even fictional)
  • Work efficiently while maintaining a high-quality aesthetic
